I found 50 to 100 little tiny white snails on one of my clams this morning. HFT. I read in D&S these are a serious threat. Any advice on how to deal with this?
Had those a few years ago. Look like a grain of rice to me.
I also had to remove them daily. Look careful around the soft underside as I found these hard to see and remove. The clam was stressed but pulled thru and the snails disappeared as fast as they appeared.
I didn't notice until I moved the clam that had become detached, but if they are attached, how can you deal with this? Also I haven't introduced a thing in at least a year, and the clams have been with me for 2 and 3 years, respectively. Where do they come from?
Dr. Ron Shimek is compiling data on parasitical snails...and I'm sure he would appreciate any input and samples you could add to his research. Attached is the body of the thread:

I would like to compile some data on the number of species and kinds of snails parasitizing Tridacna. To do this, I need examples of the shells.
If any of you have some of these pests or shells from them and would be willing to send them to me I would be much obliged.
These need to be animals you have seen actually parasitizing the clams, though. Not ones you removed because you think they might someday attack them.
I have heard also that a six-line wrasse is a good predator of these snails. I have also heard that the yellow coris wrasse is good too. I have a yellow coris wrasse in my 180 and have about 8 T. maxima and T. crocea clams. None have any of the snails, do not know whether to attribute it to the wrasse or not. I had a horrible attack of them when I had clams in my 120. They would be all over the clams and I would pick them off and then there would be none for several days and then another batch would show. I have no clams in the 120 now except for the survivor T. derasa.
