I'm looking at upgrading my lighting system in the near future. I would like to get some thoughts from all the reefers out there what are "good buys" for higher end lighting systems. I read on PFO site and now on atlantis aqu. that (PFO opinion) HQI is the best light out there, then ushio mogul. [looks like ballast price will be similar HQI vs blueline electronic 250w]
I made a mistake the first time I got lights by buying PC when I should of just spent the extra $600 for MH lighting. Now I have to spend $900+ but this time I want to get it right. I plan to get a 10+ inch tall canopy. I also will use the 2 PC ballasts I have to power 4 96w bulbs, (probably 2 act. and 2 daylight) to help simulate dusk to dawn.
So Final decision is to determine HQI or Mogul. The new HQI mini pendants might just fit in the new hood b/w the 2 rows of PC. I'm sure I could also attach reflector and 3 mogul bases to run MH that way. I can build medium level DIY stuff so that not a fear factor.
I know this is long, thanks for taking time to read and respond. I would love to hear about reliability of HQI and lifespan of their bulbs vs. standard mogul.
