I was sold on the idea driping Kalkwasser after reading Breefcase's comments on the whole drip thing. I've been to a couple of supermarkets where I live asking for pickling lime. The responses usually include a strange look followed by a "Huuuuh". So, Where can I find the stuff?
Maybe a specific brand or warning if any of you have any.

Thanks ya'll,

Andy

I've read here that you can find it at Wal-mart.Every time i'm there i'll ask an "associate" where to find it.I get the same response every time"huhhhhh".I think the minimum age requirement to work at wal-mart around here is 75.Nothing against the elderly working at wal-mart but I like to move at a slightly faster pace.you'd think half these older women have actually used the stuff for it's intended purpose.(canning)

Ooohhhh Sledog, sounds like you're opening up a can of worms! I'm gleefully awaiting a flame war to start! Calling all old people! Calling all old people!

As far as the pickling lime, you may want to do a search on the internet, I've heard it's called Mrs. Balls (yes, that is the real name). I would imagine if you could find it on the internet, you could find a number for the company and ask them if they can tell you who sells it in your area. You may also want to try peapod or another online grocer and see if they list it, if they do, then it's probably at your grocery store.

I have yet to find someone at any supermarket that new what pickeling lime was. Simply ask where the canning isle is. It will be on the same shelf. You can use either Mrs. Waggs or Balls. Costs $1.39 here in Oregon.
Good luck

Hi Andy,

Wal-Mart does carry it, but only in the summer. It's a very seasonal product. I have not been able to find it at Wal-Mart recently, but look in the canning section with mason jars, pickling salt, and pectin. I also found some at Albertsons, if you have one of those where you live.

There are two major brands. Ball's is in a green and white cannister, and Mrs. Wages is in a brownish bag. Both work well. Mrs. Wages website is www.mrswages.com but they show the pickling lime as out-of-stock right now.

HTH,

AWD- Ask anyone that cans where to find it. I think Albertsons might have it. I found it at a Kroger here in Tennessee. It was next to the mason jars. Surely in Provo they will have it. As you know, canning is a big deal there.

If you still can't find it, I will ship you some... Just don't freak if you open the container to see some white powder...

I found some!

It was at a grocery store that appeared to be around 150 years old. It is the Mrs. Balls brand and was $1.40. I did have to find it my self because no one knew what it was.
Thanks ya'll.
