My local water supply will be adding chloramines to the water this week. There have been multiple warnings in the media to fish owners about the dangers of chloramines to our animals. I use an RO/DI unit which I am told should be effective. I am concerned about how to test for this additive if my RO/DI is not removing it. Any thoughts? Will I need to change my cartridges and filters more frequently?

Thanks,
mitch

your RO/DI will remove the cloromine with no problem.. However you will have to get a different DI cart configuration media mixture. I had a problem with my DI carts not lasting very long and the spectra pure guy made a specail mixture of DI carts for me and I don't have any problems with cart life anymore.

Good luck!

Although I can't recall the specific product name that I have, I've used the liquid supplements that purport to remove chloramine/chlorine for 4 years now w/no ill effects.

hi.
Amquel? They neutralize the am., instead of removing it as claimed.

hi.
If the Cl-Am goes thru the RO, check and see if the carbon block prefilter need replacement. Both Cl-Am and chlorine should not go thru the prefilter.

hi.
I think the ammonia test kit should work on Chloramine... anybody confirm this for me?

So if that's true, test the output of the RO with your am. test kit.
