I noticed today that one of my bubble tip anenomes had a small hole in it possibly because it was torn by a rock or my clown fish. Do you think this will effect his health will he heal after some time? Othe then the small hole the anenome seems to be o.k.

Is she hiding?

If there is a tear or hole and she is out in the open it is more than likely damage and not splitting.Dose some Potassium Iodine to keep out infection. Also begin to look through the tank for a predator. I cannot see the anemone getting ripped unless a rock fell on her. I have seen clowns pull the tips off of anemones. However I've never seen one make a hole.

What kind of fish do you keep with your anemone besides the clown? Many fish will pick at anemones and some consume them. If there is a predator that lives in your tank you may have to look at the tank at night by flashlight to find the culprit.

thanks for the replys. I am pretty sure that that the anenome is not spilting because it just split about a month ago. The only fish that comes close to it is my yellow tang and I have never seen him pick at the anenome. My maroon clown keeps everthing else at bay. Also the tips around the damaged area are a greenish color while the healty area is a light brown. I will dose with the iodine and see what happens. Should I dose the tank or should I squirt the iodine directly at the anenome? Again, I appeciate the replys.

careful with iodine.. can be very dangerous in quantity.

I would not dose iodine at all. The torn foot on my LT healed quickly.. I would watch the animal and remove if necessary but I would not dose large ammounts of iodine into a reef system.

good luck.

maybe you will get lucky and the added stress will cause it to split again

Four or five drops(not ml)would be fine when added directly to the tank.
