I was just scraping my glass and my larger Clown (about 2"long) tried to hide in my carpet anemone. I poked around in the anemone and found only the tail sticking out. I'm afraid he's in fish heaven?
Has anyone seen this behavior before?

I do not have a carpet, and I do not have a clown, but I have read somewhere about this type of thing happening. Has your clown been with the carpet very long? From what I recall it had something to do with the fish not being "acclimatized" to the carpet and getting stung. The post had said that tank raised clowns were more prone to this and that they had to get stung to build up a tolerance to it (like we get shots to prevent the flu.) The other possibility is that the clown was sick.

IMO the "fault" lay with the fish as if it were not affected by the sting the anemone could not have stung it.

Just my second hand knowledge.

Well, for what it's worth, here's what happened:
A pair of Clarkii's were added to the tanktank with an 8" dia. carpet anemone about 2 weeks ago. (all bought together).
Within minutes, the anemone quickly burrowed into the gravel.
The clark's took about 4 hours to settle in with the carpet.
Both Clark's fed the carpet during feedings.
Went away for the weekend.
Got back and fed fish this afternoon, fish were HUNGRY after 40 hrs. without food.
Clark's didn't feed anemone during feeding.
I decided to clean front of glass and scared the bigger clown. He then sky-bobmed kamikaze style into the anemone.
Anemone closed up and "looked suspicious". I noticed the larger clown missing... but finally found it's tail sticking out after about 2 minutes of searching for him.
Tried to pull him out, but that basta@# of an anemone must have been hungry.
Smaller clown seems to have moved in as alpha male (or female?).

Well I've had a carpet for 7 plus years, bought it at one of the Pet Supply Depot Stores (remember those - yuck), anyways after several years and a conservative $500.00 spent on other fish (tangs, clowns, etc...) I picked up a used 37 gallon RR tank for it tonight. Seems like whatever has gone into the tank has eventually been eaten by the damn thing. Now my only question is can I have more than 1 in a tank, or will they attack each other?
