If your running a skimmer then the air being drawn in by the skimmer is the same are you are breathing and polluting.
Who knows how it affects the reef,im sure nicotine and the other poisons arent part of the reefs diet in nature.

I don't think so......At least not that I can notice. Otherwise, I guess my corals and fish enjoys occassional nicotine fixes as well as I do.
I especially liked the billiard table effect when I turn off all lights in the room and leaving only the pendant MH on, a couple plumes of smokes reminds me of the good'o days.....
hey this makes me wonder how I could go about building or buying a 'clean air bong' or RamAir thingy for my Euroreef skimmer. Or maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to try and force air into the intake considering that it might throw the components out of balance. hmmm. Anybody ever tried to build one of those RamAir things for their tank? Like the one that Escobal mentioned in his infamous book? My tank gets lots of second hand smoke.
you could easily run a closed top system and a beckett type skimmer. With this type of skimmer you coudl get yoru air supply outside or through a filter. Then you won't have to worry.
I know quiting smoking is hard but think of all the extra reef gadgets you could afford over time
My wife used a similar reasoning to get me out of this reef habit...
Anyway, most of the toxins in smoke are hydrophobic, so your skimmer should be able to get them out. For the water solvable toxin, I guess you can always try to do more water change. Don't drop your cigarette/ash in the tank while doing water change.
I did not try it, but maybe someone can make some tobacco juice and see if there is any effect on curing ick/LLD/parasites. It kills bugs in my garden, that's for sure.
Smoke will leave a residue on the outside glass of the aquarium that needs to be cleaned from time to time in my experience. My corals and fish do not seem to be adversely affected by cigarette smoke. But I do know that nicotine is a natural insecticide. I have had difficulty maintaining pod colonies (closely related to insects) - perhaps a correlation?
This is a strange quastion. Why would you ask if it will effect your reef tank and not if it will effect you insteat. I think it will do more damage on ya health then your coral.
