I am little pleased with the run of the mill "dial and tab" light timer I am using to set the photoperiod for my reef tank. Does anyone know of or use another type of light timer or controller that would have a minimum of two power outlets?
Radio Shack sells a device called Plug'n Power which will control up to 4 lights or other aquarium appliances at one time. You will also need the applicance modules that go with it for each light/item that you want to control. It's digital and can handle two on/off's per item per day.
I am running eLightMaster written by Bill-e. It uses an X-10 firecracker to control up to 6 lights and aquarium appliances and your moonlight. You can find info over at eLightMaster
How big of a fire hazard would it be to plug a power strip in to a heavy duty timer? It probabley wouldn't work for lights, but fans, heaters, etc. Why wouldn't that work? They have a fuse or trip if it gets over powered. I have ben contemplating this and would love to hear form someone who actually knows.

Works fine as long as you don't exceed the current capacity of the timer itself. I was running a power strip with my 400W MH and two fans on a lamp timer (no reason to run the fan when the MH isn't blazing) and had no problems whatsoever.
