I have a tosadstool leather in my tank which will regularly close for about 3 days then open back up and extend polyps

Each time it opens it is a little larger it seems as it was a very small frag when i got it and now measures almost 5 inches across when its opened

This amounts to it doubling in size in a period of months now heres my concern:

it has been closed for almost a week and it has never been closed that long

it appears to have shriveled/wrinkled up about half its normal size

the last time it did this i became very concerned and it opened the next day could it be a normal part of its growth cycle ?

This is my play tank and all water parameters are fine ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 0 calcium 450 alk 3.4 meg/lt

The only change i made to this tank recently was the installation of a homemade spray bar the spray bar was installed on a power head that used to blow directly on this coral

I have been using this tank to propagate mushrooms and to ocassionally frag a soft coral and i do use superglue to attach the frags but everything else in the tank seems to be thriving

I have moved this coral and am considering relocating a power head to blow directly on it any suggestions ?

Yes, redirect the PH to blow on the toadstool til it sheds it skin. They need the current to help rid itself of a slime layer that develops on them from time to time. As you found out, they grow pretty quickly when in the right conditions.
