Fluval filter for mini reef tank??? help

I currently have a 20g mini reef, and I was wondering if funning the fluval 304 at all times will be OK? Will it filter some of the bacteria and alge that I need, or will I be cool? Along with the fluval I have a prizm skimmer, and a max-jet power head for circulation, 150w heater. Lighting includes 2 55w lights and additives. 25lbs of LR and more soon to come with a 2" sand bed...
So, am I on the right track? Will this mini reef do well? Thanks in advance

Most people dont have a form of mechanical filtration on there reef at all times. Mainly because it usually leads to high nitrates which gives you algae problems. most just use the live rock and sand as their biological filtration and keep on a skimmer.

I have a 40 gallon with nothing but a few power heads for circulation, you don't even need a skimmer honestly.
