Apparently Sea Grass does a better job of organic removal than mangroves (Eric Borneman - Corals). I was wondering if anyone knew where I can get some grass for my refugium.

Thanks,

Bill is the only place I can get seagrass so far. Others are all caulerpa. I got turtle grass from him earlier this year.

If you are inquiring Bill, ask him the temp requirement of the specie you are looking to get. My turtle grass didn't grow. They don't die either, but just don't grow at all. I later read the turtle grass' natural habitat are cooler water temps and the reef tanks are significantly much higher than it.

As far as I know, in Florida it is illegal to collect any of the sea grasses. The law is supposed to prevent people from dredging and scarring the sea grass beds, but it actually is specific to even one plant. Even so, it is easy enough to collect a few plants that get washed up on the beaches down here, but its probably tough to find an outlet that sells it, as it would have to come from somewhere else.

John and Shelley at Florida Pets are great, and will answer any questions you have when you order. They collect in the Keys.

You can use Paypal to pay for your order, too. Great prices, excellent customer service, healthy stock!

I've gotten three species of seagrasses, gracilaria, halimeda, and some shaving brush plants. I ordered on a Friday morning and got my plants on Saturday! I had to pay for weekend delivery, but it was worth it. Other places need a couple of days before the order even leaves the shop.

They have inverts and cleanup crews. Starting next year, they'll be offering even more macros and plants.
