refugium size?

if I was to build a refugium next to the sump under the tank, what would be the minimum size that would work for a 58 gal tank?
would a 5 gal. refuge be adequate for a 58 gal reef tank or should it be at least around 10 gal.?

I have a 70 gallon tank and I use a 5 gallon refugium. I would love a larger one, however there is no room. Even with only 5 gallons I have noticed a significant decrease of other forms of algea in my main tank. There are also lots of pods, baby snails etc. I beleive some of these do make it back to the main system. I say any size is a good size. Larger is probably better.
