I didn't have this problem when I first set up the tank, the temp used to remain where I had it set. I haven't even bothered to check it in like 6 months.
Now it never dips below 84 degrees, even at night in a 68 degree room with no lights and the heater unplugged. I'm at a loss. It's an all glass 92 gallon corner tank, a CPR combo (which is an enclosed acrylic sump) with a Rio 2500 and a Rio 1700 running inside it. Could all this heat be from the pumps? They don't even feel that warm to the touch. The temp climbs to 88 degress during the day with the lights on, however this doesn't seem to be the main problem.
Any ideas? 84 degress with no lights or heater in a cool room seems very strange to me.
I can't run the tank without a glass top because of the noise factor, and the lights sit on it too. The lights only add about 3 degrees to the temp, it's the 5 extra degrees coming from somewhere else that concerns me.
Thanks
Jim

sounds like global warming to me!

Seriously, I think it's the pumps. Do you have a fan? If not, I'd say it'd be a worthwhile investment.

A thermometer I have started reading 5 degrees above actual. Check with another thermometer...

It could also be a pump.

Tanks don't lose much heat through the walls, even if the tank is glass. I wish I had some references for you to look at, but I think something like 80% of heat loss is through evaporation. If your cover is too tight then you'll keep all that heat you gained over the day. Just try propping the cover up a bit and you should be fine.

It is the glass top. I am sure you have not check your temperature since you added the glass top. Evaporation cools the tank down alot. With your glass top, your tank cannot evaborates at all thus the high temperature.

ON mine, which I run MHs I raised by acrylic top by inserting cut pieces of 1" flex tubing at the corners to raise them about 1 1/2" off the surface. I have a fan in my canopy with blows air on top and below the cover so it blows across the water. You might need a small fan to blow across the water. ON my tank, the temp in the water retains heat for a couple of hours after the lights have turned off! You'll be amazed how long the temp can last without dropping! With my cover on previously, my temp hung about 84 degrees, with the cover raised and no other mods done, the temp dropped to 81!
