I do not hear much about these pumps, so I am curious what people think about them. They seem to be built well and have a high price tag. Does anyone have one?

I am mainly concerned about two things,
1. how quiet are they?
2. how reliable are they?

I am curious about them because I am looking to find a powerful yet quiet pump that can drive 6000 gph at 10 ft. of head. Iwaki would have been my original choice, but their pumps do not move that kind of volume. The RK2 that I was scoping out was the 1/4-hp model that ran at 1.5 amps.

Any comments are very much appreciated. Thanks.

I have 3 of thier pumps

2 1/4 HP they are great, they push TONS of water,
I'm not sure about 1.5 amps I can check tonight.

They are in Caralsbad San Diego.

As far as sound. I can't tell since its running in my garage and I do not hear it.

As far as quality they are very good.

Arnon,

I am 99.9% sure that the RK2's are shaft driven, not magnetic like the Iwaki's.

Little Giant and GRI make magnetic drive pumps larger than an Iwaki 100, but most aquarium places don't stock such large pumps.

If you don't mind shaft driven, Dolphin makes some very quiet, very energy efficient pumps.

Noise seems to be an issue for you, but I have used Hayward swimming pool pumps on my tanks with good success. They are a bit noisy and not the most energy efficient, but they move scary amounts of water and laugh at head pressure.

Thank you very much for your posts. I have heard great things about the RK2 pumps and other devices. I'm going to strongly consider using them almost exclusively.
