I am currently getting ready tosetting up a 125 in my new place. I am using a Quiet One pump for a return through the overflow. It looks like this might not bee enough flow for all my corals in my 65. I recently purchased another Quitet One pump, for a backup, but was thinking of running a closed loop system, sucking from one side, down to the pump, then to a 2' modular pipe I picked up. The piping is the 1/8", and has small nozzles like a spray bar. The pump standard is 3/4", but I think I could reduce it to fit. What do you think. I did not want to have any powerheads in the tank, so this is my first option. I will eventually get a SS, but for the time being.

I don't think that 2 Quiet One's on a 125g tank is excessive flow at all. I'm currently running 2 Iwaki MD-55RLT pumps on my 125g and I think I don't have enough flow. I was thinking about adding my LG4 pump on a closed loop.

It also depends on what you want to keep in your tank. I plan on having mostly SPS.

Too much flow? Ha!

I'm a firm believer that you really can't ever have to much flow in a tank. I'm sure you could, but most of us won't come close to replicating the flow on a natural reef.

The key is to dispurse the flow over a wide area rather than concentrating it into 1 or 2 returns.

FWIW, Nathan

BTW, I'm running an ampmaster and a 1/4 hp sequence pump on my tank for a total flow of 7,800 gph and I've got a pair of Gemini powerheads (960 gph each) that I'm going to add soon.
