I am going to a 300g tank. What is your opinion regarding glass vs. acrylic. I am leaning toward class because it appears that glass doesnt hold the heat and doesnt scratch as easily.
I agree that acrylic scratches easy. I had a 55 gal acrylic tank and it was wasted after 2 years. I just bought a 150 gal glass tank in January. It takes two strong guys to move my tank, it'll probably take 6 to move a 300 gal tank. I think if you get a nice wide 300 gal tank acrylic might be the way to go.
I grew up using glass tanks... Now I finally got an acrylic so it would be light and easy to drill. After dealing with all the tiny scratches you get. I will never get another acrylic tank. If, I am half as gentle as I am with the acrylic. I will never get a scratch in my glass...
Knight Industries sells a nice little kit for getting scratches out of acrylic. The sandpaper can be used inside the tank too. Time consuming, but if you spend as much time admiring and fretting over your tank as i do it's worth it
. my cheap a$$ algea scraper was just making more scratches so i replace it with a Hammerhead from premiumaquatics.com. Works great! no scratches, no hands in the tank.
anyway, if you do decide to go acrylic, these two items may give you as much use as they've given me.
