I will be setting up a 90g reef tank and am planning a DSB of 4-5”. I will buy 50 lbs of LS (and rock and other things) from someone with an established tank. His LS is CaribSea Aragonite. My question is what to add to it since 50 lb will not be enough for me. I have three 50lb bags of Southdown and one 40lb bag of CaribSea Aragonite (1-4mm particle size). I could add either of these or a combination of both.

Your comments will be appreciated.

I have no experience with the Caribisea, but adding the live sand to 150 lbs of South down will work fine, though you may need a little more.

VaReef,
give us your tank width and length and we can tell you how many # of sand you'll need for the depth you want. You might also consider getting more LS from different sources or split the 50# you plan on buying in smaller amounts from more than one source for greater livestock diversity.

I think 200Lbs of LS fits easily into a 90G tank. To make up to 3-4" of sandbed depth, I actually think you may need more.
