I have 1 cleaner and 2 peps and was thinking of adding another cleaner and another pair of peps, but I dont want them stripping my DSB of its pods. Would this many shrimp have a large impact in a 75G tank setup for 1 year

My guess would be that they would eat some pods and worms, but not enough to make any noticable difference. I have cleaners, fire and pepps, 7 in all, in a 46 gal and still have a ton of pods. A 75 gal probably produces them faster than the shrimp can catch and eat 'em.

In my experience, Peppermint shrimp are more threatening to the pod population than Cleaners.

I would say they all eat pods, but I would say that it depends on how much you feed. The less you feed the more they will forage for pods.

Stupid me, I placed a peppermint shrimp in my refugium and it depleted my pod and bristle worm population. This took only a week or two.

How big was the refugium?

My Flame Hawk decided that the shrimp in my tank looked to be better tasting than the food that I was feeding it so it took all of my shrimp out. A couple cleaners and several peppermints.

I am amazed at the number of pods and worms that are visible in the tank since the removal of the shrimp. Also, I have a nice poplulation of breeding stomatella snails now since the shrimp are gone.

I refer to shrimp as the jackals of the reef. Not going to pick on anything larger than them, but will gladly attack and consume anything small enough for them to eat.

FWIW, Nathan

Inverts just seem bad for the little critters as they are quite opportunistic and even take some swipes at fish.

Hermits are bad.

Mantis aren't the only bad shrimp it seems.

Almost 20 gallon. I had tons of bristleworm and I saw it snacking on a bristleworm one day but I had tons of caluerpa and rubble rock where it was impossible to catch unless I want a sandstorm.
I posed this question with Dr. Shimek and he suggested removing it because it is borderline in terms of cleaning up the pod/worm population.
I learned it the hard way.
