OK I was away and trusted my mom to watch the tank which she had done PERFECTLY a few wks before without a hitch and everything was wonderful. I came back this time and a leather coral died and I have a heavy diatom and green algae bloom. I already have turned off the lights and wiped off the sides as much as possible. Are there any other suggestions I haven't heard about yet?

Any help is great!

I feel like the uncaring fish guy that lets his tank go to pieces! I feel sooo bad!

Besides for you to start doing water changes, it's hard to give any advice without knowing more info. What did your mom do? What tests have you run? What size is your tank? How long were you gone for? What kind of a filter (if any) do you have running? Do you have any other corals or fish? Turning off the lights for an extended period of time may not be such a good idea.
