After doing a little more research I have found that what I thought were snails were really tubeworms. Will the tube worm harm the clam? They are reddish brown and spiral at the base and come to a long thin point.

I brought home a clam with one of these and asked a similar question. I was told they are harmless, but I now have at least 1,000 in the tank. I little annoying!

sf, actually sounds like vermitid snails, they are harmless, but will multiply into the thousands. When I am playing in the tank, I usually just snap them off.

Thanks for the replys. I will just leave them alone then. Ive scraped a couple off in the past but I didn't like to disturb my clams glad to hear they are harmless. I also have tons of them on live rock and even my snails have them on their shells I agree they ar a little annoying.
