Oh Yeah! Murdering Crab Skewered...

Ok, at the risk of sounding barbaric here's the report...

Just now, within the last 5 minutes, I've caught and killed a hitchhiking crab that's been terrorizing my tank for nearly a year...

He has (with a little help from his hermit buddies) managed to eat every snail I've put in the tank, and the hermits as well...

Yesterday, I got 5 Bumble Bee Snails and a small Cuke from the LFS...A little while ago I saw him trying to pry one of the Bumble Bees out of it's shell, right out in the open...Brazen little monster!

I ran to the kitchen and grabbed a paring knife...
He just sat there calmly working the snail out of the shell....

BAM! I skewered him right through the carapace with the scalpel-like blade!

He's now spending his last few moments of life in my back yard...

The snail seems OK,maybe he'll survive...
But, even if he doesn't, he will have given his life to save the lives of others of his species...

If he dies, I'm going to build a memorial from all the empty shells of his snail bretheren that lay scattered about the tank...

Um..

Why didnt you just reach in and take it out? I cought a left handed hermit killing my longest living snail(i know this cause of the shell) and he totally mauled it. I suspected for some time he was a murderer cause..hes the only hermit left in there...So I reached in as he was eating Sat. dinner..and tossed him in the sump.

Glad ya got your murderer..theere are just better ways to solve problems than killin things.

I would do the same thing if it happned to me. gotta like that memorial idea.
that was one brave snail, you just have to respect that little guy, hope he makes it.
as for the crab, perhaps you could feed its flesh to the remaining snails...
did i say that?

Short Answer: No.

Longer answer: On every previous attempt to apprehend this guy he managed to dash down his little hole before I could catch him...

This time speed and surprise were in my favor...

As far as having a "working" critter, this guy never did anything but empty my snail's shells...

As "God" of my tank, I have finally cast the demon into the pit...
