I am considering using red slime remover, what (if any) are the drawbacks to using it? Any precautions to be taken?
Thanks, Rich

I have a HOB skimmer and a HOB refugium and go otherwise sumpless. I only have pumps to add more water moverment. I have seen no adverse effects to going sumpless. And the only main reason for not going skimmerless is that skimmers add massive amounts of O2 and are a great backup for oxigenation when things go awry.

Hi folks, sorry it took so long to reply, I was off of work for a while. I use supposedly 12 stage filtered RO/DI water almost always, I have gotten some water from a friend who has a 4 stage filter a couple of times, and as a last resort, when I could get any water, I have added store bought RO/DI water. I have currently 2 penguin powerheads, 1 550, 1 1400, and 1 maxijet 1200, and 1 RIO 800rvt powering my Precision Marine HOT skimmer. The elbows at the RIO pump periodicly get plugged with sediment, (white hard material) and I take a drill bit by hand to clear it out. This makes the pump run poorly when it is clogged. I had forgoten that since I remodified it back to the HOT version. I do have phosphate remover and I guess I could run it in a Magnum canister filter. How long should I run it? also has anyone heard of "Poly-Ox"? A friend has used it a couple of times with success.
Thanks, Rich
