Since Julian has now had plenty of time to figure out what went wrong with Combisan, I'd like to approach TLF to provide an explanation of what happened in the Combisan fiasco (as he said they would).

Before doing that, however, I want to make sure that I didn't miss a public explanation.

Did anyone see any public explanation of the situation?

Thanks.

Randy,

I don't ever remember seeing a public explanation of what happened.... I know about the whole fiasco that happened but that's the last I saw of it on any of the boards unless I missed something.

So that's why nothing happened when I accidently pour 3/4 of a bottle into my tank once.

Randy, I have been looking but haven't seen anything. The last I heard Dr Ron said that they were going to sue him, that was 4 or 5 months ago.

Ron's "threat" issue was a different one, I believe. That was Marine Snow.

About Combian, apparently I missed Julian's public posting at compuserve, and also missed a private email of the same message as it was sent to an inactive compuserve account. Julian just sent me a copy of the original posting. Thanks for the input.

Mind telling the rest of us what the results were as I've also missed the explanation.

Thanks!

To be honest, it isn't at all what I expected, and that's disappointing. I've asked Julian to clairify some issues. Anyway, here it is:

Well, other than dropping the product altogether, TLF's hands are tied since they do not make it, just bottle it and market it.

There isn't necessarily anything wrong with the product, nothing about it has changed other than we now have reason to question it's value.

Even though we did one of the tests, we do still stock Combisan because we believe TLF is a reputable company and someone may want to use the product (however Combisan sales have gone rather stagnant lately

) TLF responded rather quickly by yanking the BS off the label which I do find admirable considering the huge rancid festering pile of BS that is copiously produced by other "additive" companies in this business.

Speaking of BS.... where did you find the quote "Don't cycle a tank with little damsels; use groupers, triggers and morays."? Is there a web site or was this a verble/personal comm.?

Or more importantly...Is this serious?

The Mark Weiss comment was from his dis-infomercial in the latest FAMA.

Yes, unfortunately, it's serious.

I have been using combisan for a few years, and to tell you the truth I can't tell the difference. Tell me, what could combisan do for my reef tank ? The only thing that I would do once a month to make my tank healthier is the 25% water change. Why did I use combisan ? Because the guy at the lfs told me it is good for my tank. Is there any prove that it work ? I think none so far. If a beginner walk into an lfs and ask what he or she can put in the reef tank. If somebody said combisan then that will be put in the tank. Let see some prove that combisan does help out our hobby. But for now, I am going to stop buying it.

Matt.

Oops. I was wrong. Sorry.

Combisan was found to be MORE THAN 99.9% water.

Marine Snow was found to be 99% water...

My mistake.

Thanks, Ninong for clearing that up.

Randy,

So it sounds like Julian fixed the problem by not changing the product at all. All he had to do was change the label and remove the list of what it supposedly had in it. Now if it IS just water he doesn't get into any trouble.

Wow...this is really sad....
