Skimmer Suggestions-Euroreef or Precision Marine

i have a 100 gallon setup,

precision marine bullet 1 w/pump is $330 (myreefcreations.com MR1 is $290) but they both use very strong pumps

euroreef is $270 w/low wattage pumps,

people rave about all of them, does anybody have any opinions,

I'm also interested in the responces to this question. I'm thinking about setting up a 75 gal
reef and was considering both of these skimmers.
So I guess instead of creating a new thread for the same question, i'll just "piggy-back" on this one. BTW, I will be keeping a little of every thing - sps, lps, softies and clams.

Out of curiosity, where are you finding a bullet 1 with pump for 330? 330 is the standard MO price for a bullet 1 with gate valve and NO pump.. or was the w/pump a typo?

I like precision marine.. you have an auto waste collector option, and they use a standard pump. If you get a euroreef, purchase a backup impeller ahead of time.

Choice of skimmer is heavily dependant on your application needs. Having owned both brands, I will confidently say both are effective skimmers.

I stuck with my Euroreef for three main reasons: it was quieter, more energy efficient, and easier to service then the Bullet. Jeremy is spot on with the impellar issue; Euroreef impellers will break because of swelling if you turn them on/off too often. Not a design issue with the skimmer, per se, but rather the pump provided.

Again, both are great skimmers. It just depends on what you're looking for beyond sheer skimming capabilities (which both possess in spades).

i have visited your store twice (last time w/ my 6 year old son) and value your opinion. your livestock is tops and you know what you are talking about.

atlantic aquatics is selling the bullet 1 for $339 w/ a sen pump, of course i would give you my business first--supporting a local lfs is my preference.

how do you rate precision marine against myreefcreations.com MR1

go with a downdraft skimmer like the ETS, best in bussines, you get what you pay for, you will only buy this skimmer once, go to www.superskimmer.com and check them out, I had a clone ETS downdraft skimmer build for me, this thing can pull tar of the roof , cya.

I have a Euroreef. I used to have a Berlin Classic.

So, anyone who can relate will know...I laugh in the face of skimmate !

I'll buy a dozen impellers for what this skimmer will do !!

I built my own bullit 1 skimmer with a beckett air foamer and a mag18 running it (throttled back) and it works very well. It is a bit on the noisy side, but I can live with that for the performance that it gives my system (about 100g total, 60g display, 15g nano, and 25g sump all tied together)

I have the PM Bullet 1 skimmer and am very happy with the unit. I too have a 100 gallon tank and I have an AmpMaster 3000 providing the flow to my tank return, my skimmer, a sparger which provides water flow through my drop in chiller coil, and the water to my calcium reactor. This may be a possible option for you too - I really like the idea of having one high quality pump provide all of the flow for your tank. It is much more energy efficient, space efficient, and will probably cost less in the long run (I believe that AM3K will last a long time).

I don't have any experience with the euroreef.

I used an ETSS skimmer for almost 3 years....(so basiclly I was skimmer less)They pretty much suck,IMO.

I now use a Euro-reef CS6-3, They have to be the best skimmers I have ever seen. About the inpellers on them. I talked to a few people who use them and also a very well known place in So Cal who uses some of there LARGE skimmers. I was told the regular Sen impeller works just as good as the needle wheels

I have a MyReef skimmer and it works wonders! The price is nice to boot. It has only been running 3 months, though. I have only heard good things about them.

I have a Euroreef skimmer on my 230. I have owned about 5 other skimmers over the years and this is by far the best skimmer I have seen or used. The only problem I have is that it is so much more efficient than my prior skimmer that it is starving my refugium. If you choose the euroreef you will not be disappointed.

i just replaced a red sea berlin with a euroreef cs6-2 skimmer. this is an awesome skimmer. it pulls out a lot of dark nasty skimmate. i have an open stand made of 2*4's. I turned every piece of equipment off except the skimmer to see how quiet it was. It produces virtually NO noise. i can sit on a chair next to the tank and have no clue the skimmer is on. Another thing i love about the skimmer is that the collection cup needs zero clearance above the cup to remove for cleaning. so if you have 25" height in your stand you can get the cs6-2 skimmer which is 24" tall and can remove the collection cup with no problems. i have no experience with the becket style skimmers however i am sure that they are awesome also, but the euroreef skims awesome with a much smaller pump. the pump that came with the skimmer is only rated at 500 gph. from what i have read on this board people who have a becket style skimmer use pumps that have 3 times more water flow than the euroreef pump. so IMHO you cant beat the euroreef for efficiency, quietness, and ease of cleaning. the only drawback that i can see with the euroreef is that it can only be used for an in sump setup. so if you want a external skimmer the becket style is probably your best choice, but if you go in sump i would recommend the euroreef.

more people are favouring the euroreef, but warning me of the impeller issue

also, the euroreef is $70 cheaper than precision marine($100 if you add the valve on precision marine)but same price as myreefcreations.com....but i am still undecided
