Don't have an answer Claw, your description doesn't match anything I've seen in my tank. When my bristle's spawn, it's just a bunchn of worms crawling to the tops of the rocks. I've seen one critter, a short and thin worm, go twirling through the water column after lights out, but it had a very recognizable "corkscrew" motion to it.
I just walked in and checked my tank after the lights have been off for about 30 min. I do this on a very regular basis (3-4 times a week). As I turned the room light on, I noticed a bunch little segmented worm-like creatures swimming around. There were between 50 and 100 segmented worms, that looked like they have little legs coming out of each socket. About half of them are a dull orange and the other half were a pale blue. They were 2-8mm in length, and they were free swimming and more or less wriggled through the water in order to swim. My gut feeling is that they were baby bristle worms, but I just thought that I would see if anyone could verify or debunk this idea. After about 20 minutes, they have all but disapeared. Anyway, any help in identification is greatly appreciated.
