Nasty......sounds like the rock was allowed to cure in the sun, and brine flies or gnats or whatever laid eggs on them....they fed on the decaying crud. Hopefully they are not biting flies like salt marsh no-see-ums or greenheads...and more hopefully, aren't carrying any tropical diseases...yaws, anyone? What happens if your nose falls off into your reef tank? Take care, Eric
