Question for PM HOT-1 skimmer users....

Do I need to run a drain line from the collection cup to a container or can I leave the elbow-joint in the cup facing upwards to vent without one? I thought the hole in the collection cup would be higher up and have the skimmer running right now without a drain setup. My tank's small so I'm not too worried (yet). I hope I don't have a smelly mess when I get home.

Dan,

Well, what i would do in your case is plug that hole up with a rubber stop or something. Turning the draining pipe upward would only give you an extra half-inch before the "waste" water raises and spill out of the openning.

I left my draining hose on, because it was less of a hassle then for me to remove the reaction column and clean it.

Thanks. Yes, that helped. I don't know why I thought the skimmate would fill up the cup without spilling even though the joint was turned up. I guess I should have paid attention more in physics. Anyway, I think I'm going to run a line down to a bucket or something for the meantime.
