Opinions? Two books I have list the Niger as one of 3 "reef safe" Triggers. The only concern they mention is for eating shrimp, which I currently dont have any of (all snails and small hermits).

My LFS's all seem to say any Trigger is bad for a reef....

Niger, pink-tailed, and blue-cheeked triggers have upturned mouths for planktonic feeding. They are not "rock crushers" like other triggers.

This is not to say that they won't nibble curiously on things...just like any fish would. But I consider them reefsafe.

My bluecheek was reefsafe.

jamesw,
What happened to your blue cheek trigger?

Also, I just put a baby Niger Trigger in my tank. Too soon to say he's safe, but from all the things I have read, they feed on planktons and algae. But they are pretty.

I have a Niger in my reef tank for quite awhile and it doesn't bother corals and doesn't even bother my shrimp. It does chase my Flame wrasse, with the result that the Flame gets its tail nipped once in awhile. Triggers generally don't like wrasses, probably because in the wild wrasses go after trigger spawning nests.
