I just added a new 58 gal refugium and would like all of your suggestions on how to use it. I have already walled off an 8 gallon corner of it to use to siphon surge into my main tank. I started with 2" of large CC then 1.5" of 2mm CC then 1.5" of oolite. I have about 15 lbs of LR and some caulerpa in there now. My main tank is a 180 with 270 lbs LR, plenum, 5 tangs, 3 percolas, 1 cinnamon, mushrooms, xenia, leather finger, 2 anenomies, and future plans for a mandrin.
My goals are twofold. One, get my nitrates down from 8 to 0. Grow pods and shrimp to feed the main tank.
Specific questions:
1. I now have two percolas in the refugium becaus the cinnamon tries to kill them. Will they interfere with my goals?
2. What do you recomend for light cycle.
3. My fixture is 2 24 watt flourescents. What bulbs should I use.
4. Additives? Iron? How much and how often?
5. Unique ideas I haven't thought of?
