If there was no visible signs of stress such as rapid respiration or a subtle sandpaper effect of scales, or scratching against the rocks, I would suspect malnutrition. Usually fish do not just drop dead without some sort of a cause such as a parasite. Watch your other fish closely for possible symptoms and use a nutritional supplement such as Selcon. I had not added any
new fish in 6months and somehow my tank raised clowns contracted marine velvet. Luckily, I noticed the subtle symptoms of its beginning stages and treated them both in a quarantine
tank. Sometimes marine fish disease symptoms can be very easily overlooked to the inexperienced eye.

My female clown died this morning and I can not figure out why.

I have had this clown fish and a mate for about 10months now. They were both young ocellaris that are captive bred. Last night I watch the tank before the lights went out and all fish seemed fine. I have seen no signs of stress in any of the fish. I woke up this morning and noticed the clown was not with her mate. I looked all around and then found her dead on the sand. There are no marks on the body at all. I am really bummed.

What could of caused her death?

All tank parameters good.
