Hello,

What was the longest life span and largest size of the Spotted Mandarin reported in those surveys? I am putting together a web page about this fish (a sample of what I've done with some other fish species is here), and hope to get that information. I also hope people who's kept this fish to give their input to this discussion.

Thanks!

Jason

Hi Jason,

If the information was collected during the survey, we can access it "offline." I'd have to check back to see if the maximum age of the fish was one of the questions. Let me know if you want specific details.

Please feel free to link to the Mandarin II Survey, but make sure to acknowledge that it is from www.reefs.org

Cheers

Hi,
I have had a male spotted madaJanetrin for about a year. He is fat and healthy. He is in a 70G tank and I also have one reg. mandarin with him. They get along great. He eats frozen brine, frozen mysis and the occassional live food I give him.

James, thanks for your reply. I don't know if the maximum size or longest life span was among the survey questions, but I saw there was average size and average age in the survey results, so I assume you could find the max size and longest life span from the data collected in the survey. It would be great if you could get me those information to put on the web site.

The survey itself is the greatest source of information on this fish, I wish there are more survey like it on other fish species. Here is my first attempt of the FAQs of Spotted Mandarin, a link to the survey results is in the "Reference" section towards the bottom of the page. I also welcome anybody who's kept this fish to give input to the original discussion. (It is on another board)

Shane, the survey results have already been online here, under "mandarin", next to "Take Survey", there is "view results".

Hi Shane,

Dallas (DBW)is going to kill me for putting him on the spot, but I have been hoping and waiting for him to put together an article about the findings of the mandarin survey. We can put all of the data into Excel and really "flex our muscles" with it.

Perhaps we can look forward to a future Advanced Aquarist's article about the Mandarin Survey and the Mandarin dragonette.

Cheers
James
