Tim

correct me if im wrong but didnt you recently lose some clowns to marine vevlet/black ick ?

did you ever get a protien skimmer ?

Angels are harder to keep than clowns which are still technically damsels I would not try them until I had healthy clowns for a while.

I think you should slow down a little if the coral beauty dies I would take him out immediately and leave the tank sit for about a month before adding anything

then I would start with easy to keep fish such as damsels green chromis then move up to clowns then maybe a royal gramma then onto dwarf angels. I have kept salt water for 5 years and many fish I wouldnt even think of trying because of tank size and/or complexity of care

give me some water parameters to answer this question please

No i have never had a clown die, I have only had a damsel and he is doing fine. the coral beauty is looking better this morning so i dont know what the problem was.

I know some fishes change colors during the night.. (yellow tangs become whitish, 3 stripes damsels become all grey).. I never noticed any changes in a coral beauty yet (mine sleeps behind rocks) but could this be it?? If the lights were out, maybe it was sleeping??

Without knowing any more about your tank, I would assume it is a reaction to poor water quality.
