I've had a number of corals in my tank for a while .. Various acropora, Xenia, leather, star polyps etc… and my fish, and in particular my flame angel and Queen angel, have not bothered these.

Recently (2days ago) I added an open brain. Well the Queen angel thinks this is the tastiest treat under metal halides and is particularly determined, despite my attempts at aversion therapy. So I guess my new open brain is doomed.

Has anyone noticed that open brain corals are particularly venerable to predation???.

I wonder if there are other corals that people have noticed are particularly favored by hungry angel fish???

I’m curious if there is a trend (in terms of this species of coral) or I just made an unlucky spin of the wheel.

(I realize that you always take a chance when you keep various species of angel fish and coral)

I have the same problem with my flame angel and open brain. He loves to peck at it. But for some reason, if I put it high up in the tank, he doesn't realize it's there and therefore does not bother it. Any other place, it becomes his lunch. No harm has been done to it so far. He just causes it to close up all the time, except for when it's up high in the tank. I have no experience with the queen angel though.

My emperor also ate my brain till gone...really pissed me off, he always seemed to find the brain even after I would move him around, now I have a skeleton sitting on my tank reminding me that angels and brains DO NOT MIX.

Thanks for the responses guys and gals. MIke&Pam I tried the moving trick last night to no avail, but thanks for the suggestion.
My Queen Angel is not shy about feeding anywhere in the tank. Why is it that the most destructive fish are typically the ones with the best personalities.....

I hope the my tangs don't join in as well, that would be altogether too insulting!

Cheers

I dont know, I have never ate one. They might be ok if cooked propely. I have read that large carpet anemones are considered a delicacy by the natives of some islands.

Tangs often like to eat open brains as well. Usually starts when the brain is controlling/expelling zoox, the tang eats it and develops a taste, then begins pecking at the brain till it dies.
