My 75-gallon reef has been operating for 7 months now and the back glass is covered with a hard, green algae. The powerheads have purple algae which I clearly recognize as coralline. However, I don't know about the green stuff. It is hard like the purple coralline so I didn't think it is any kind of slime algae. Should I try to remove it or is this the good stuff?

AfaIk, the best way to tell between the green coralines and green diatoms is that the coraline will grow in "sheets" the same way other colored coralines do. Diatoms make little points that eventually overlap. Hope that helps.

I have some Green in my tank. The green seems to like the higher light levels, the purples like the shade spots.

Thanks for the response. It is in sheets, so it must be coralline. Everyone talks about the purple colors so I didn't recognize the green to be the real stuff.
