I find it very interesting that the administrators of this board do not want the users to discuss their experiences with online businesses. One of the great things about BB's is that you can spread the word when someone isn't providing a valuable service. Since Reefs.org does not have a special area for this, I would have assumed this would be allowed in the general discussion. It certainly has been allowed in the past. And for people (Like Me) who think ReefCentral is nothing but a bunch of cry babies, I find it very difficult to understand why these discussions would not be allowed in here.

I have had good results with petwarehouse.com. Have not tried their livestock though. I'm going to buy a skimmer from marinedepot.com. I'll post whether they suck or not. Ha. Stick it to the man.

Oh we allow it, as long as it's honest and not a flamewar. The 3 threads that got closed about Reefpure got closed because some of the posts were by the parties involved, owners of the company in dispute with one another. We can't allow that. They should use their attorneys and certified mail for that sort of communication.

I understand that, but isn't there a way that those individuals could be blocked out without closing the entire thread. A thread like that would get the word out and keep others from getting caught up in this.

I thought my policy was pretty clear when I closed those threads:

Dave Visovatti and Joan Hickman, the owners of the company involved were NOT to post on this discussion board.

Unless you're one of them 31-2c - you've got nothing to worry about...

I don't think that limits anyone's right to free speech too much. We're talking about two people who have no business taking "pot-shots" at each other on our message board.

The threads are still there, and anyone interested in shopping from Vendor X, looking for opinions, should use the search feature anyway. We hae not denied anyone anything.

I depend on BB's like this one to provide me with information on all aspects of reefkeeping, including vendor selection. I know very few people in my area who share this interest, and, unfortunately, my LFS's are less than helpful. I put a great deal of weight in the opinions I get from reading threads about other's experiences, as well as in personal correspondence. I did, in fact, "do (my) homework" in choosing a RO/DI unit, and the vast majority of threads I discovered were in praise of one particular source, who will go nameless.

My encounter with this company was quite different from most of the posts I read, and I felt it was important to share this with others on the board who might be considering a similar purchase. Apparently there are many who have had similar experiences as I, as the replies to my post demonstrate.

I do not know, nor do I care about, the details of whatever feud this vendor is having with his competition, butt I agree with James that this board is not the place. It is unfortunate that these individuals are too busy harassing each other online to provide quality service to their customers. I will undoubtedly never deal with either of them again, and I urge others to do likewise.

I'm glad you got the gist of my post Mr. Doc. I'm not trying to keep the members from discussing companies. As you can see, there are quite a few of those discussions going on now.

I want to make sure that everyone gets the most out of this board. Thanks guys.
