I bought a $29.95 water vacuum at Home Depot and love it for vacuuming out the bottom of my sump when I do a water change if need be. Actually, I had a carbon bag made with a nylon footie that has turned hard and had to get the water out of the sump and then almost hammer it out of a section I had placed it in between the two sides. As the bag broke, this vacuum which only holds 2 1/2 gals water (by the way, you must take the filter out to use the water vacuuum) did a great job of vacuuming up the debris. Just wanted to share that info. Also, does anyone know whether red hermit snails could be killing my turbos??? I just ordered 40 and see lot of empty shells. Seems the hermits are sitting on them most of the time. Thanks!!

Or, as .most people have them already, you can use a wet-dry vac to do the same job. A lot more powerful also.
