I've seen pics of juveniles on the net, but I don't think they quite match what I have, though I bought it labeled as an Atlantic Blue Tang. I know they change, but still...

If anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it.

Peace,

Yes Chip, that is absolutely an Atlantic Blue Tang, Acanthurus coeruleus. Beautiful juvenile.

He is a nice looking fish - the pic is what made me ask about lfs's in NY. I was looking for an Atlantic Blue for a while, but to no avail.

Definately a juvenile Altlantic Blue Tang. I am sure the purple fins are just a camera issue, they have very nice flourescent blue tipped fins. I have a couple pictures on my website under "Fish and Invertebrates" of my Atlantic Blue Tang as a juvenile and then a couple of pictures taken last week as he is maturing and changing color. Check em out if you want. Great fish. Mine has been extremely docile for the most part. I added a pair of perculas to my tank the other day as I lost the female of my first mated pair and moved the male to another tank with a new friend to hook up with. My tang was quite aggressive the first day, I was worried as he has chased only one other fish months back for a bit. By the second day he is paying the pair no attention and all seems well. I feel very lucky that this big guy is as mellow a tank mate as he is. He is by far the biggest and baddest in the tank but treats all the fish well. He is voracious eater of various macro algaes. he is really valuable in that sense. He works hard in my tank and is quite impressive to watch. BTW, I have him in a 120g. I hope he does not outgrow this tank, he may though.
