Well after much debate I went with a MAG 9.5 as my return and it is still powerful I had to set the ball valve to almost 3/4 shut. I do not understand why people suggested getting a bigger pump for the return if the MAG 9 is so powerful. I think I will be adding more loc line to dispense my flow. It is going to be a Fish with Live Rock tank.

Thanks. I just put this tank up the other day and snapped it with my camera phone sorry I was in a rush. I will be posting more soon. I moved my rock a little bit and am ready to add more. This rock came out of my previous 55gal. This is going to be FOWLR. I had a reef in my 55gal. I might eventually get back into the reef aspect when I get more time, but for now FOWLR. I am interested in the beautiful angel fish like the juvenile, flame, coral beauty, Tangs like the Naso, Powder Blue, to start with and haven't looked into other fish yet that I wanted to add but couldn't due to not reef compatible. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. I am still trying to figure out I have a MAG 9 as my return and I have the ball valve almost 3/4 shut since it pumps more water than the tank drains. I need to figure it out so that I can get better water flow. I don't have any powerheads yet and believe I wouldn't need to add any since the MAG 9 isn't at max compacity so I will be adding locline to rearrange my flow.

I am using a durso. 1.5" drain. I can't get the MAG 9 to stay fully opened without it draining faster than returning to the tank. Any ideas why this is happening? I know that you guys mentioned using a bigger pump but if I did I think it would still be useless since the MAG 9 ball valve is shut 3/4's of the way the MAG 12 or 18 would be doing the same. This is what I do not understand. Thanks

can you take some pics of the plumbing work that you did, something doesnt sound right .

a 1.5" pipe should be albe to handle 6 x mag 9 working at the same time

Well maybe the Mag 9 is situated in a small compartment in the sump. There is not enough time for the water to fill up that compartment so it empties out easily.... just my 2 cents... i cannot imagine a Mag 9 tuned down for a 120 gallon tank...

Well here is the Sump that I purchased from my friend the setup is similar with the plumbing. I will take pics later on this afternoon so that you can see my exact setup but I hope this can give you an idea of the setup.

quick ?. how wide are the teeth on that overflow? from the pic they look very narrow. maybe if you dremel the slots a bit wider it will help drain quicker

btw cool table rock
