I'm interested in hearing people's experiences with the product,Kick Ich.

Have you used it, did it work, did you follow the instructions or did you come up with your own method?

Did you use it in a quarantine tank, or did you trust it to be "reef safe"?

Thanks

It made some of my critters close up. And it did not take care of the ich. I think it is useless.
You will get mixed reports on its power, which should tell you something about it. If it really worked, everyone would use it.

Ich is tricky. Q tank is nice, but don't always work either.

I think you should make sure your water is good, and feed good stuff.

Also, it might be helpful to do a search on Kick Ich and read the many previous discussions on these kinds of products.

i used it in my reef tank last year when i had an outbreak. the corals didn't seem to mind, but it did little to help the fish. i suspect the mud in my sump absorbed alot of the medication. anyhow i didn't work for me.. and it was expensive

btw i did up the amount of the dosage to try an compensate for the mud.

I have an established 50 gallon tank. It worked for me as stated on the bottle. I used it as the directions state and my ick was gone. No harmful effect on the corals (mushrooms and LPS).

The problem is that it seems like the infection clears up as often when you use the product as when you don't use the product. In other words, people who use the product report the same it working as often as not working.

Does that make sense? I am tired...

I have heard two free ways to get rid of ich (have not tried either but...) anyway one is to slowly raise the temp in the tank to around 85 this supposedly speeds up the life of the disease and wipes it out check out SRK for info on this. Also my LFS told me to put the fish in freshwater for a few minutes and that this would clear it up.... No I am not kidding. Anyway I feel that chemicals only confuse the bio's of your system and should not be used

Oh and I forgot the obvious scarlet cleaner shrimp will eat the ich right off the fish. I have seen my fish actually back up into the shrimp and get an all over body massage by the shrimp I assume looking for parasites. wierd but true

seriously you are better off spending your money on a few cleaner shrimps, soaking your food in vitamins, fresh water dips and maybe using some garlic elixir. if all else fails try some voodoo magic.

The tempature thing works only for freshwater Ich.
While the freshwater dip will rid the fish or parasites, there will still be more at different stages of the lifecycle in the tank. If a fish is very infected a freshwater dip can help, but also stresses the fish.
IMU, cleaner shrimps actually cannot remove the parasite, because the parasite is microscopic. The white spots you see are a cyst produced by the fish's skin - I think thats right.
Garlic might do somthing, but I feel the support is as dodgy as the support for Kick Ich.
Hyposalinity, I think around 1.009, will do bad things to the parasite, but not to the fish - if the salinity is changed slowly.
And copper works, but you can't use it in the reef.

Food, no stress if you have no Q tank, is the way to go.

Terry B. is on the money. He is "ich man".

Knows this area as well as anyone.

I tried Kick Ick in my Q-tank once. Even at higher than suggested dosages my results were zero. With copper/garlic feedings my results have been 100%.

I arranged for several LFS to test Kick Ich on multiple tanks. The results were disappointing to say the least. Cleaners do not cure ich. Seeing a cleaner on a fish does not equal curing the fish of ich. FW dips do more harm than good. Garlic works better with light infections. There are only two proven methods for treating ich: copper or hyposalinity. Hyposalinity consists of maintaining the salinity at 16ppt or less ( I like 14ppt) for a minimum of three weeks. Do not confuse salinity with specific gravity. This translates into a specific gravity of about 1.009 depending on water temperature.
