Well, the fish and the reef have been working hard the last 24 hours preparing for Michelle. They have all their sleeping holes shuttered up, fresh water, and lots of beer stockpiled. All should be ready for any onslought. Only worry is loss of power.
It's pretty odd that I really have no worries for my own well being, all concentration has been to making sure my tank is as safe as possible and ready.

We are up here in Miami and when we went to the LFS yesterday to get some supplements, everyone was going nuts getting battery powered pumps, etc. (we already have some). Our tank is ready to go, but I don't think we'll have any problems up here. Good luck down there.

p.s. lionfish, nobody was trying to compare a hurricane to the tragedy in NYC. We are all very cautious down here after Hurricane Andrew, that's all.

i have two 1,100 VA UPS to power up my powerheads in the event of a power outage. those UPS could power up my phs for quite a few hours

As for power back-ups, I will have one of those computer power things in a couple of days, and will be looking for a sale on generators.

We were lucky this time around.

This is probably one of the least adressed, but potentially the most serious issues-long term power outages (hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, snowstorms are all very good at this). If you can afford it, a portable gass generator is one of the best continuous power options-provided you keep the gas tank full, dont expect them to power many things. Battery back ups IMHO are ok, but they won't last nearly as long (help me here if anyone knows-a couple of hours at best?). They also sell house generators that are supposed to keep everything running, cost many $$$$ however. (Remember the 2000 yr craze, Home Depot and Menards to name a few where advertising them all the time). It all depends on how long you expect before power is restored, and how much your willing to spend. BTW I didn't mention floods as I'm sorry to say if power is out from that, more than likely your tank will be filling w/flood waters (hopefully if you live in flood prone areas, you planned for this). GLAD to here Michelle spent most of her energy before hitting the keys, and looks like she'll head out to sea to die a lonely death, best way for a Hurricane to go!
