Hey all. I used to use DT's Phytoplankton. They they stopped carrying it at my lfs. I forgot about it. Saw it today at a different LFS and the owner who is a moron suggested trying a new product called LiquidLifeUSA
website at liquidlifeusa.com
It has an even ratio of 1/3 1/3 1/3 of tetraselmis, nannochloropsis, and t-isochrysis(which if i recall was taken out of the orig DT's because of availability).
The odd thing about this new product is a) it is frozen when not used but does not freeze. B) Is in a small container and it says 1 spray per 30 gallons per every other day. c) its 30 bucks so I refrained from getting it till I heard anything back.
I read up on it on the site and in a pamphlet. Anyone use this product???
Know anything about it?
Any comparisons with DT's?

Thanks in advance

Jason

I've never heard of it but it sounds something like the cryo-paste that I got from brine shrimp direct. I prefer DT's phyto because it's live. I believe that it lasts longer in my water column before the unused portion breaks down into doc. That's just my opinion because I lack the skills and test equipment to confirm my belief.

I am in SD, and I am pretty sure that I bought the stuff once at aquatic warehouse. It is alive, and the reason it does not freeze is because the liquid will never reach the freezing point. I forgot what they said was in the liquid but it never freezes or kills the plankton. Not sure if its the same stuff because I do not need it any more. I have plenty of misis and such breeding in my sump.

I used it in all my reef tanks. The stuff is great. It is a bit costly, but does last a long time. I pay about $20.00 at the LFS. A couple of drops goes a long way. I had DT's, and went through it really quick. I like the compact size, you don't have a gallon jug sitting in your fridge.

I have been using it for about a month now. Here is what I like about this compaired to DT, which I use to use. Smaller contaier is nice, but the effect it has had on my tank. Green starts exploded!!!! I have several common sea squirts that appeared from now where. These useually survive in a tank for a while, but never really grow. They appeared and have grow in my sump, and all and several through out the tank. Poylops on everything are extending farther and looking fuller. A leather that I have had for nearly a year without much real growth has made a noticable jump in size, in the last month. My gorgainions are growthing rapidly. The coco worm is out of it's tube feeding more often, and the copod population had jumped. It hasn't effected the water quality at all. It has my recomendation.

I've used it in my reef tank with good results. i like it better then DT's because it doesnt have such a quick self life. What LFS told you about in San Diego? i havnt been able to find it around here. Im also in SD.

Thanks for the comments guys. I have heard nothing negative about it so far.

As for LFS, I was shown it at tri city tropical up in vista, I don't like them too much but their tanks are better now and if you want some mushroom rocks, they arent a bad place to go as their shroom selection is nice. Anything else than that, I go to octopuss gardens or aquatic warehouse. Ive bought most of my stuff at aquatic though and pat(the owner) and Jim(his trusty sidekick) arent bad guys..just get by that pat is a salesperson and wants to upsell you. Call his bs.

Ps. I do have a refugium on my tank so im wondering if I really need an additive like dt's or liquidlife. I have a great population of pods and such and a harvest of caulerpa.

Any opinions on that?
Thanks again
Jason.

I am no expert as to what needs the dt's or if spawning misis will work in replace, but If I turn on my light near the tank at night I see hundreds of tiny shrimp swimming all over. I definitely think it is great coral food regardless.
