Tang Health

Does anyone have experience with yellow tangs? I made the move from crushed oyster shell to sugar sized aragonite yesterday. While changing the substrate I moved the tang and he was stressed (go figure) Anyway the white stripe on his side hasn't gone away yet although it has faded to be barley noticeable. I did a complete water test and here are my results.

Ph is a bit low @7.5 but I want to wait for it to stabilize a bit more before I add buffer to the water.

He is eating off of the LR as he should and is moving quite a bit. Gill movement is its normal pattern and his dorsal fin is fully erect as it was before the changeover. I an going to get him some nori for him to munch on in a little bit. Am I missing anything? Thanks.

Don't worry, he will recover very soon if he is eating like you described.

Turn the lights off for a day to get the tang used to it new situation. Feed garlic extract to avoid the possiblity of ich. And stay away from the tank.

Thanks Naesco. From what I have noticed he is doing better and the Ph is coming up a bit. Last test was 7.7 He actually seems a lot less skidish in the new layout than he did in the old one. He also nailed the Nori I put out for him. He is deffinatley a charchter.

Ho do you feed the garlic to him? He doesn't come right out and eat. He wanders around grazing on alge as he should.

Soak nori in some garlic extract and throw the pieces in your tank or tie a chunk of nori to a stone with a rubber band. You can do the same with dried krill as well. Tangs are attracted to the 'smell' of the garlic. Often fish that are not eating will start to munch on the garlic soaked stuff.

Anything as long as it is unflavoured. Don't get the oil though.
