I have always been a firm believer in wealth of knowledge from experience and speaking to people with that wealth of knowledge. I've always prefered learning through doing and listening to people face to face speaking of their experiences on a subject whenever i get the chance rather than relying on a few books alone when learning.

Been thinking as of recent due to some of the polls that have been around on MR. I've been on seahorse.org and they have been doing these polls to see whats the norm for dwarf seahorse tanks and then making the results a suggestion as what a newcomer into dwarf tanks should be shooting for and some guidance in setting up their tank. These polls were a little defined and had a point for beeing made but they have been giving some discussion and argument as to whats the norm and what everyone agrees on or their views on things. It created discussion and gave people something to think about even though they have been in the hobby for a while and you see that there are different levels of agreement between people. You can always teach an old dog new tricks in a way or at least get a reason why he does the old tricks his own way :wink1:.

The recent How Often Do you Feed Your Tank thread and a few others like it would be nice to have as a beginner forum sticky. Even if its just for reference and to give people new and old in the hobby something to think about and discuss. I know there was one for salinity and seen one or two more for different things. Even if the thread sounds kind of silly and very beginner like the salinity one (sorta, i know its very in depth concept but there are beginner standards where you keep it), people's responses to the poll and reasons why are very interesting and you get to see why people have made descisions on keeping things the way they do and how successful they were with the descisions.

Anyways, just some thoughts. Maybe it shouldn't be just a sticky on old subjects. Maybe they are new threads started for a specific reason. I dunno.

Stickys are only worthwhile, if they are read. If you've ever browsed the FS/FT forum, you'd see how many sellers still don't follow the simple rules stickied there. Same with the Reefs for Beginners forum. The sticky there, "New to Reefkeeping", which is a must read for all new reefers and one of the best I've read on the topic, only has 45 views since 3/6/07.
