The powersweep by zoomed seems like a good way to get movement in the tank. I have a 50 gallon (building a reef environment). what do you think of replacing my 2 power heads with 2 of these. Is this motion esential for me to suceed with corals??

the Sweeping action will quit after a short period of time, and then all you have is a standard powerhead. If you already have good powerheads, don't bother replacing them.

If you do a search, I believe you will find several posts about these.

I agree. I had to clean mine every week to keep the motion. Now I just use it as a backup.

I agree. They're great in theory but mine too have quit rotating. Actually, only one quit after a year but the other is making these -one-foot-in-the-grave-herky-jerky-motions. So i imagine it's not far behind. I had the two largest models (228's?) on a 75g.

My 228 has been working for 8 months and has never been taken apart and cleaned. The sweeping motion is very slow now but its better than nothing, I guess. The material they are made of seems to get covered in algea very quickly.

I have 3 of the largest ones, and if I don't clean them once a week, sometimes more often they dont sweep anymore. They till pump good, but the rotating parts have some major problems.
