pickling lime

Has anyone used pickling lime rather than kalk.? What are the pros and cons and where do buy it?

Hmmm, pros - it's cheaper than "aquarium" calcium hydroxide.

Cons - doesn't say "kalkwasser" on the label - that's it!

Try WalMart, or your local grocery store, if they have a "canning" section. Look for "Mrs. Wages," or "Ball" brands. Those are the two I hear mentioned most often (I've used Mrs. Wages without any problems).

Well,

The pro is, you can ask your mom or wife to get it for you.

The con is, it does not available at your local lfs.

Now if we can do the same thing for salt.
