I had taken my CA reactor down for a bit when I went sumpless. I have been thinking of ways to reinstall the CA reactor and think I have it figured out now.

During the time the CA unit was down I goofed and didn't clean it. Now the media has the ever so pleasent smell of rotten eggs. I tried cleaning the crushed coral, bleaching it, but there is still the odor.

#1 Since I can still smell the odor I'm guessing that I need to buy some new crushed coral?

#2 Is there anyway in which to clean H2S from something once it has happend?

#3 What is it about H2S that is harmful to the tank? The sulfides?

Hydrogen sulfide is a potent toxin to both people and animals. It interferes with oxygen binding to various important things, like hemoglobin and cytochrome a3.

I don't suspect that you could be talking about much stuff, so I'd toss it. It probably OK to use, but why risk anything?
