I just got the new bulb and it had a piece of paper that says to use a glass cover.
Does anyone know if this is to shield the UV or for splash protection. It looks like the other mogal bulbs I have (single-ended) the globe should filter the UV right?

Thanx

Thanx Toadally I think it is to prevent splash. The lights are 12" above the water and I have been running them now almost a month with no problems.

I wasn't aware that Ushio made a 250 watt 10k bulb. Is it single ended or double? Where did you buy it? TIA

It just came out I got it at Premium Aquatics. I will be comparing it to the Hamilton 10K. It's single-ended just like the Blueline and Hamilton I have.

I just bought one of these for my 29 gallon reef tank. I'll let everyone know how it compares to my old bulb, an Ushio 10kK 175 watt. FWIW, i'll be running it on an Icecap 250 watt MH ballast.

Jerry, please post what you think of the new Ushio 250 bulb after you burn it in. I'm using the Euro 10k as well and would love to here how the new Ushio compairs.

I just replaced my bulbs (2-250w and 1-400w Iwasaki) with ushio 10,000K bulbs and wow, I must say they look great! BTW, I ordered them from Premium Aquatics as well and received them in a couple days. I'm very happy with the service.

I'm running mine on a PFO ballast next to a Hamilton 250 watt 10K and the Hamilton is about 3 weeks old and the Ushio is 2 days old. The Ushio has just the slightest green tint to it but I'm sure after a week or 2 it will be white. Ushio is on the left and Hamilton is on the right. It fired right up the first time. I think I will be very happy with it and it cost about 10.00 less than the Hamilton. Yes Premium Aquatics ROX.

Actually, I wondering how bright it is I have the euro 250w 10k and find it a bit dim. Just wondering if the Ushio is brighter or about the same.

I think it's a Hamilton bulb but all the sites including Hamilton's list the 10k bulbs as either Euro or German. Here is the link to Hamilton's page METAL HALIDE REPLACEMENT BULBS

What's the "Euro 10K"? I've never heard of it.

Blueline? AquaConnect? Aqualine Bushke? Coralife? Hamilton?

This is my first time using halides but I think they are pretty bright. In the pic these lights are on a 90 gal and they are
12" above the water and i don't have any covers on the tank. I kinda wished I could get a little more blue but I want to keep the brightness. I may add some actinic NO bulbs later but for now I am happy.
