To which are you referring? If it's the anenome, it doesn't look like aiptasia, why do you want to get rid of it. Can you be more specific-pointer to what you don't like?

Those are what I call flower anemones for lack of a better (or more informed term). My buddy had a couple that hitchhiked in on his rock. A year later and he has 50 of the things. They are nice looking but reproduce fast. They only ever seem to get 2" in circumference (incl tentacles). He gave me some for my 240 with the coral hungry blueface and they are splitting in there too. Blue face of course doesnt eat the free stuf.... If youve got the room for them Id just leave them there. If you want to get rid of them Ive heard from the local lfs you can just roll them off the rock with your thumb.

Id leave em as long as they dont get overpopulated. Since these are cool and easy to keep and procreate like mad maybe they are a great species to keep???

These are anemonia. Very tough to get rid of. What you can try is to surgical needle inject kalk liquid into its main body in attempt to kill it. I have tried squirting hot kalk over it and they came back 4 weeks later, Bigger. Run a search under "anemonia". And Yes, they do sting other corals, especially the softies. Good luck and have fun.

Just for your information, I have not been able to get rid of mine, yet. It used to be just 2. Now there are 10. If you think aiptasia is bad......this is worse!

This is from Sprung and Delbeek "The Reef Aquarium" Vol 2. Page 373:

"Anemonia cf. Majano
Common name: anemonia

Numerous tentacles often with swollen "bulb" tips. large specimens, which form bulbous tips at the ends of their tentacles, could be confused with small Entacmaea Quadricolor

....This anemone is a pest that can quickly overrun and ruin a reef aquarium. It stings and kills stony corals and multiplies rapidly, spreading over the killed corals' skeletons. No established control has been reported, but we suspect that the anemone-eating nudibranch Spurilla neapolitana would provide a means of control.

Reproduction: Prolific asexual reproduction via longitudinal fission and possibly pedal laceration."

The bottom line.........................Good Luck!!

Injecting with Kalk is the only way I've been able to kill them. If these are on a rock that can be removed, I'd do that. Let it air dry for a few days before you put it back, or place it in fresh water to kill them quicker.

If they survived the trek from Fiji dry and then the curing cycle in the vats where the rock was cycled and again the dry shipment to you I doubt that a couple of days out of the tank will kill them for good. Try the kalk technique.

I threw em in my 240 where my Blueface Angel decided some corals were lunch. The little anemones dont look that bad and grow real fast. I hope they wind up everywhere. If you really want to get rid of em try a anemone eating butterflyfish. That might work. If these anemonia(thanks for the right word) are such a pest then take whatever rock they are in and throw it away or dip it like Thillson said.

I never read the rock anemone wars. It just seems to me that if an organism is that tenacious maybe it would be a great critter for newbies who like to buy it all right now. If you cant kill it thats cool. The fact that they were free and look pretty neat is like icing on the cake.
