Thanks everyone for your input on lights. I think I'm going to go with 2x250watt metal halides over my 90gal (24" deep) reef rather than the hqi's (mainly for price reasons). I'm going to use my 2x96watt pc's for blue lighting. I think marinedepot.com has a kit that will hold the pc's and mh's. In fact, I'm pretty sure you can just customize your own kit there. I think I can get this without buying the kit, since I don't need the pc ballast. Anyway, my question concerns brands. I'm going to use 10k bulbs, since everyone seems to be happy with the color they give off (hopefully there will be just the right amount of blue with my pc's added to that). I'm not sure what brand to go with...icecap, pfo, or any other good brand that I may not be aware of??? I think icecap is a little more expensive but I could be wrong. Regardless, which are better or is there not much difference? I may want to go with the cheaper ones since I may need to get a chiller down the line. Also, what brand bulbs? Are German 10k's good?

I'm pretty close to my decision (since saving money is an issue and anything is better than what I have now, which is just the two pc's). I just want to make sure about it with reefs.org members and read your recommendations. Thanks for your advice.

Sorry don't have any suggestion for you but a friend of mine ordered one of those custom hoods from Marine Depot and it is awesome. He had one 400 watt MH and two VHO's for acintic put in. He also upgraded to two fans instead of just the one. Having the two fans has made all the difference in the world. I just wanted to say that they do a really nice job on those.

I am just going to mount the new lights in my canopy that I already have. I think I can get away with just ordering the dual ballast, bulbs, 36" reflector that will hold the 2 mh bulbs and 2 pc bulbs, and whatever chords I need (hopefully they can tell me when I order). I'll probably install 2 fans on the inside sides of the canopy facing the lights. If that's not enough, i'll add another two on the back (where they are now). And if that's not enough, then, unfortunately, it may be chiller-time.

How does this sound for my 90 gal (24" deep)mixed reef:

2x250 watt metal halides 10k bulbs
2x96 watt power compact actinic
-A total of 692watts. That comes out to 7.69 watts per gallon
