What's going on with those little Indo Red stars?

I forget the latin but i'm sure you guys know what i'm talking about. Those little orange starfish with 1" long legs that never get too big, do they have a short lifespan or something? Everytime i ask someone how theirs is doing it has dissappeared after several months. This has happened to me too, and it's not the tank because i also have a pair of lynkia's. Anyone else notice this phenomenon?

I had one for about 6 months. Then it just disintegrated from the tips to the central body??? What's up with that?

I have two and one looks like just what Guy described, "disintegrated from the tips to the central body". The other is very active.

I have had one for 3 months goes all over the tank I guess he is eating algae he seems to be doing fine so far. a 135
